NORFOLK, Va. – She’Matters GIRLS (SMG), Inc. celebrates 7-years of service to girls and young women in the Hampton Roads community with a social chat and chew. Destiny Anderson

When I think about Miss Destiny Anderson and her growth from a girl transitioning into the beautiful young lady you see today, I think of the documentary, “A Whisper to a Roar.”  This film tells the heroic story of courageous activists, many who were students, who used their voices & experiences of struggle, past & present to bring freedom to their people. Miss Destiny has grown to do the same.

Upon meeting Destiny, I do not believe she knew her voice. Working with her SMGIRL Sisters in various programs through the She’Matters G.I.R.L.S, Inc organization and serving as the Lead Volunteer for The Aspiring Young Leaders (AYLAcademy), helping to facilitate an after-school program with 19 first through fifth graders, she not only found her voice but recognized her level of self-esteem & now understands her worth.

Since Miss Destiny has discovered her new self, she has so much to offer. I see a different level of ambition and determination that’s evident in great leaders. I, we, her She’Matters G.I.R.L.S, Inc family is looking forward to seeing all that the newness that Destiny has to offer.

She definitely exemplifies our description of what we an SMG M.A.D. Girl should be! She’s a young lady who knows enough of who she is to make a change in herself. That change ultimately Makes A Difference in her family, her school life and her community. Miss Destiny Anderson,  #WErPROUDofU!

Jordan Rome

When I think of this young lady, Miss Jordan Rome, I reflect from whence she’s come and smile at the quote, “She believed she could, so she did!” In the face of achieving all, she’s set to accomplish and so much more.

From receiving her first NO after try-outs on the volleyball team, Jordan was determined to make her mark in middle school sports. Growing up with asthma and eczema and having to take medication with steroids to control and or calm down flare-ups, Jordan was ready to shed her shell of the chubby, cute little girl to redefine herself as a healthier pre-teen.  Determined to stay active, she sought to assist the cheerleaders as the team manager.  One yes, turned over that no and she has not looked back since.

From running the 200-meter medley to being a year round cheerleader and maintaining the demands of her JROTC Command, Jordan manages to uphold her scholastic accomplishments of being an honor student and a leader among her peers.  Among  her other achievements this year, she’s been inducted into the National Honor Society, prepared to serve her third year as an officer in her high school’s Latin club all while maintaining her position in JROTC. Her greatest accomplishment this summer attests to her strength, ability and worth as she received her driver’s permit and was selected out of 300 plus students in Norfolk the opportunity to participate in the City of Norfolk’s Summer Apprenticeship program, Norfolk Emergent Leaders (NEL).  In the midst of maintaining all of these activities, Jordan continued to serve as She’Matters GIRLS, Inc’s Jr. Executive Director. With the help of her Sisters, together they’ve implemented programs, set policies, attended Town Hall Meetings, volunteered with partnering organizations and local law enforcement programs and mentored their younger Sisters of the Aspiring Young Leaders (AYLAcademy).

Jordan understands that the sky has no limits and she’s prepared to receive all she can from life’s experiences. She is truly a young lady on the move and for that and so much more, Jordan WE are proud of you!

Ayo Clark

Congratulations to one of our own SMGiRLS, Miss Ayo M. Clark. As a graduating senior from Norview High School, class of 2016, Ayo’s shy personality and quick wit captured the hearts and attention of those she encountered.

Not only was she her class’ Salutatorian, but during the school year, Ayo held the highest GPA of all athletes for both the Fall & Winter seasons while playing Field Hockey, tutoring her peers in Chemistry and other subjects, receiving induction in the National Honor Society and holding down her position as a Junior Officer, Jr. Assistant Deputy Director, with the She’Matters GIRLS, Inc organization. During her tenure in this position, she helped her Sisters implement two conferences, volunteer as teen mentors for the Aspiring Young Leaders Academy (AYLAcademy) at Ingleside Elementary, served as the Host and MC to the organization’s first Mother-Daughter Chat and so much more.

Ayo was and is an asset to our organization! Her presence will be missed! Although she’s just a few miles away attending to her studies at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA where she plans to study Biology & aspects of Medical development, we hope she will drop in to visit us as often as possible. Her influence is contagious!!

Welcome to the NEW She' Matters Website

Dear SMG Family, Friends & Supporters,

We are a youth organization for girls ages 10-19 years old. For those who are familiar with technology, you understand that SPAM is a beast. The information listed on our site that speaks about “viagra” has somehow seeped past our firewalls.  We are investigating the issue but wanted to let you know that this, in no way, has anything to do with us or our organization.

Thank you
